People Are Precious. Experiences Are Important. And No Matter What...
Tonight, I attended a life celebration for a dear friend in the community. It’s the second memorial I’ve been to this month. It seems that lately, I’ve been having more face-to-face conversations with the reality of mortality.
My brother is currently fighting for his life as he battles cancer, my mother’s health concerns me daily, and here I was just a few months ago questioning the point of it all once again. Is that something that ever goes away completely? I’m not sure. What I know now is that time is all that we have—until we’re asking for more.
I don’t know how long I’m going to have in this body. I don’t know how long I’ll have the capabilities or the brain function that I do now. I don’t know anything about tomorrow except that I’ll be lucky if I get to live it through. Others would say I’m blessed—which I am—but regardless of what you call it, none of that really matters. What matters is right now, because it’s all you have.
People are precious. Experiences are important. And no matter what, your existence here has way more purpose than you realize. It’s important to seek out and live out whatever purpose you desire to fulfill in this world, because that’s truly the only thing that can keep you going sometimes. But even beyond that—your existence alone is purpose enough.
I haven’t been on here the last few months. If you’re still reading, thank you.
Truth is, I wasn’t so sure of myself for a moment there. I had some layers to shed and some beliefs to face, but I’m coming out of the weeds.
I came here tonight to share with anyone reading this that you are enough. You will always be more than enough. Whatever wrongs you think you’ve done, or whatever reasons have been presented to make you believe you’re not worthy, I promise you—you are.
And I don’t mean that in an egotistical or entitled way. I mean it in the sense that, all the way to the core of your being, you are worthy of being seen, heard, and appreciated. From the day you were conceived, there was a love within you that called your existence into this world. Through both science and miracle, here you are—and despite whatever circumstances you were born into, or whatever societal standards have tried to define you, there’s an existence within you that reaches beyond the matrixes of your mind. You came here to experience the luxury of sensation.
So go. Go explore. Go learn. Go love, fuck, cry, fight, dance, sing, read, climb, dive, soar, and more. Go.
Because if you’re lucky enough to be conscious of your last moments, what kind of life do you want to reflect on?
My wish for tonight is for all beings to feel—even just for a moment—ease, peace, happiness, and freedom.
Thanks for reading. Good night.
Yours truly,
Kala
